This is the place where sanctuary ushers of First Pres Church of Bellevue can exchange ideas, tips, and vision for making the role of usher something that both serves the church community and enriches the lives of the people who are serving.
...we welcome and serve in God's house everyone who enters, in order to facilitate a meaningful worship experience.

Is Our Church Like This?
When you are with people on a Sunday morning, does it feel like this to you? If so, why? If not, why?
I think this is good stuff. It's difficult, sometimes, to go back to the basics when we are so ingrained to be(and so successful at!) thinking about the details. I liked it as a reminder about what really counts....I think it lets us be a little more gracious with ourselves when we feel less than perfect!
An interesting and thought-provoking film - It leaves me with the question, "is this what a church SHOULD be" or is there more. I think it is all that was shared, but much of the film was centered on what the church does for me. I would like to pose here, " what does the church do for others?" Is there are reason for the church?
GREAT comments! I think this church video is geared towards people who have had the experience in which their church was more about what they should NOT be doing, or wearing, or thinking, or being. Most people have, at one time or another, felt that their church might not like them quite as much if they knew who they really were - as though any of us can be all that good at hiding our flaws! But you are right, I think, in asking if there is more. So I will open it up to the group - WHAT is a church for? Is it for fellowship? For challenging the status quo? For rattling the cages of society, whether gilded or not? For pushing us closer to God, and if so, what does it push us away from in the process?
Very, very good.

ReplyDeletePS - forgive me - I mean... is there a purpose for the church - a vision beyond what we get from it?
ReplyDeleteI liked the first video, but I still don't think it goes far enough -
